I have been reading a lot these last few weeks. Blogs, articles, books, reports, you name it, I have probably read it. I am trying to summarize for you the things I find that are helpful along the way.I am sure that most people do not want to sit down and read 10 books in 1 week, while spending countless hours on the internet researching. I do think it is advisable to read up some on small business tactics, but this is also what I am trying to accomplish here and with my business.
I do the research for you so you don't have to. That said, I would like to share with you a motivating phrase that may be just what you need to hear.
"Remember, the Ark was built by amateurs; the Titanic by professionals." - Eric Standlee, In Houston Blog
For me this sentence hit home, as it should for any first time business owner. I am no professional entrepreneur, though I hope to one day say so, right now I am trying to learn everything I can to avoid mistakes of being unprepared. Between my reading and research I am also meeting with local business people that work in my field, gathering intel from every available source.
I don't claim to be all knowing, but I do think this is probably a step that most professionals overlook. Those that have massive amounts of experience to call upon gain confidence that they have experienced most, if not all the pitfalls of owning a business. Isn't this what sank the Titanic, over-confidence?
