Persistence is The Only Way To Win The Race

I was watching a video yesterday that my local SBDC published called “Do You Have What It Takes?” As I was listening to him rattle off a list of traits that any successful entrepreneur should have, I began to think about myself. (I sort of think that was the point.)

Anyway, as he got to the point about persistence, I made myself laugh out loud with the visual imagery I gave myself. I am persistent, or so I’ve been told on a number of occasions, and some have even gone as far to call me hard-headed. My response to them is, of course, I use my hard head to beat against the wall in front of me until there is a hole in it and I can successfully climb through.

I have that attitude about everything I do. It is what leads me to believe that I can run a successful business. I believe I can do anything, and faced with a challenge I only try harder until I succeed.

I believe that anyone who decides to go into business for themselves should have the same attitude. Confidence is a key tool of any entrepreneur, but it should also come hand-in-hand with a certain degree of humility too. I know that I do not know everything there is about running a business, but I am willing to go to great lengths to find out what I need to know.

I just need to learn how to portray this to every person I talk to along the way. Knowing that you have the ability and convincing investors, partners, customers, and networking contacts, that you have the ability are two different things. I can only hope that I am doing a good job so far.
